For some people, crooked teeth keep them from smiling and truly enjoying life. Today, new advancements in orthodontics make it possible to achieve a straight and ideal smile without the hassle and discomfort of bulky brackets and wires. Our cosmetic dentist, Dr. Glenn Spencer, has special training in Invisalign® orthodontics, and can create custom treatment plans to help patients achieve the straighter smiles they have always wanted.
Invisalign® invisible braces have many advantages over traditional metal braces. Invisalign® uses a series of plastic aligners that gradually move teeth into an ideal position and are much more comfortable to wear than sharp brackets and metal wires. They are also removable so that eating, flossing, brushing, and even important social events need not be affected by the orthodontic treatment. Best of all, Invisalign® aligners are clear, making them the closest option available for completely invisible braces. No one will notice the aligners or even know that a patient is undergoing orthodontic treatment.
There are several steps to achieving a straighter smile with Invisalign® invisible braces, beginning with a consultation at our Bloomfield Hills practice.
Before a patient can receive Invisalign® invisible braces, Dr. Spencer must examine his or her teeth to determine if he or she is a good candidate for orthodontic treatment. He will make impressions of the teeth and take images of the mouth in order to plan out the best course of treatment.
After the initial examination, we will send the patient's records to Invisalign® so that a series of aligners can be custom crafted, based on Dr. Spencer's treatment plan. The aligners will arrive at our office a few weeks after the initial consultation.
Each set of aligners will be worn for two weeks, and then replaced by the next set in the series. Patients must wear their aligners at all times, except while eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. As patients progress through the aligners, their teeth will gradually move into the more ideal position that was determined at the consultation. During their orthodontic treatment with Invisalign®, patients will visit Dr. Spencer at his practice in the Birmingham / Bloomfield area, near Troy, Michigan, every few weeks so that their progress can be monitored.
When patients have progressed through all of their aligners, which typically takes from nine to 15 months, the treatment will be complete! At this point, many patients also choose to undergo Zoom!® teeth whitening to further enhance the appearance of their straighter smiles.
